We've made a little more progress on the roof lately.
I also finally closed up the railing on the porch that had been unfinished for quite a while.
Not long ago I rented a chain saw from Home Depot and went to town on an old dead avocado tree that was also up on the back hill. Looking out from the treehouse window, you see the little strip of ground that we're starting to clear for what will be hopefully be a garden next spring. Can't have too many projects!
The side of the tree house adjacent to the door faces the house and is right above a steep bank. From the platform level down to the grass behind the kitchen window is about a 20-ft drop, so we decided that would be the first wall to go up. I framed in a railing with supports that is just low enough for Evan to look over, so it will preserve the view but provide protection against a fall.
At first my idea was to fill in between the supports with pieces of the folding door I mentioned in a previous post. But they looked pretty cheesy and, since that side of the tree house is most visible from the street, that idea got nixed. I'm still not sure what is going to go up on that side. I'm hoping to make a visit to a local fencing company which sometimes has free scrap wood that might be usable for our purposes.
